The Dream of a New Life
In 2024, our family faced a challenging situation. Living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment in the Netherlands with two small children and a dog, we were struggling with space and privacy. The situation became even more difficult with a neighbor who showed little respect for our family's needs. We knew we needed a change - not just a better home, but a better quality of life. That's when we made the life-changing decision to move to the countryside in France, seeking more space, closer connection to nature, and a peaceful environment to raise our family. The excitement was real when we found our perfect home and were ready to begin this new chapter.
An Unexpected Challenge
Just when we thought everything was falling into place, we faced an unexpected hurdle. Despite having a remote-friendly job as a Customer Success Engineer, upper management declined my request to work from France. My manager fought hard for me, but the decision was final. We were left in a difficult position - we had already committed to our new home, but now faced uncertainty about our income.
Family Support When It Mattered Most
After months of job searching and facing the challenges of securing a mortgage without stable employment, our family stepped in. They offered us a loan that was enough to make our dream possible. This act of trust and support was both humbling and inspiring.
Building a Better Solution
As I started managing our family loan, I realized there wasn't a good solution for tracking payments, interest, and maintaining transparency. The existing tools were either too expensive or didn't meet our needs. So I built Family Loan Tracker: a tool that makes managing family loans simple, transparent and trustworthy. It has kept our own loan straight for years, and now I want to share it with others in the same position.
A New Beginning
Today, we're happily settled in France. I found a freelance position just before our move, and while it's not the traditional employment banks prefer, it allows us to live our dream. Our family loan, managed through Family Loan Tracker, has helped us build our new life while maintaining clear communication and trust with our loved ones. This journey has taught us the value of family support and the importance of having the right tools to manage financial relationships with transparency and care.
